Mike and I had prayed specifically for a minimum of six students. We debated, much like Abraham with God. For the sake of one, would we really cancel this mission?
I knew it was time to make a firm commitment to the trip, so I asked Mike to pray with me before I went to school. There would be an announcement assembly that day. I wouldn´t plead for students to join, just make a simple announcement. Mike and I prayed that God would let us know for sure that He was calling us to Cuba 2019, and if He would send us a sixth student it would be a clear confirmation that we were to go.
At the announcement assembly four hours later, I simply said, "If you have spoken to me about Cuba--or even if you haven´t--please talk to me after announcements."
Damaris, another Spanish-speaking student, was the first to me at the door, saying, "Profe, I want to go to Cuba!"
And so there were six.
