  • About Me

Welcome colleagues!

I'm not much of a blogger. I love to write, but then I rewrite and rewrite and edit and edit...
So there are lots of good intentions, but not a lot finished.

My CI Journey

I found a Blaine Ray videotape (yep, a long time ago!) in Teacher's Discovery catalog when I was teaching Spanish in grades 1-8. I had tried just about everything from materials I created to textbooks. When I found TPRS, I knew I was home.

About this blog

This is a dual-purpose blog. Mostly I use it to record my adventures taking students on trips to Latin American countries where we collaborate with locals on a variety of projects. My students named our group "Sus Manos." Clicking of that tab will tell you all about it.

I haven't used the "For Teachers" section much, but It will be a place for me to organize things I create or discover for my Spanish classes.

And... I apologize that this blog does not have a "follow" feature. I didn't know that when I adopted this platform and I am kind of committed now.

CI Novels

I love using CI novels for teaching Spanish in my high school classes. Novels allow me to blend all my favorite things: language, culture, history (I added a history minor to my social work and Spanish degrees in college just for fun), geography and storytelling. I use one all-class novel to end Spanish 1 and one each semester in my blended Spanish 2/3 classes. Because I teach the two levels together, I alternate novels each year.

Libertad

Oh yeah, I wrote a book! (It took a long time, see above, so I'm not sure when the sequel will be done.) The book tells the true story of my friend Dionisio, who escaped from Cuba, and was published by Fluency Matters.
